Ransomware has been on the rise for quite a while, with lots of high-profile attacks getting media coverage, and some fairly huge payouts in the past year. And while we firmly believe that good security is essential, and the best way to deal with ransomware is to avoid it in the first place, we also know that everyone should prepare for the worst while working to prevent it.
Once upon a time, a villain did succeed in breaching one of our partners' defenses, and because he was able to capture the Servosity Professional backup password with a keylogger, he was able to delete both the cloud and local backups, and encrypt the clients' data. From that day on, we've asked ourselves, "what could we do better, to make sure this never happens again?". We've made some quiet changes in the background, but today we're ready to announce the culmination of our vision for a world where even if the bad guy might get a shot or two in, the heroes will ultimately come out on top every time.
Beginning on 11/01/21, Servosity Fully Managed is becoming Servosity Safe, our answer to the challenges of ransomware (not to mention natural disasters, hardware failure, and data corruption)! You'll still get the same Fully Managed service we've always offered, but we've made some big changes to the way we do things, both with our new Servosity One backup software, and by making our cloud storage so secure that nobody can possibly delete it, not even us! Here's the short version, Servosity Safe is three things:
Fully Managed Service - Once you install our software package (and reboot the system if it's a DR backup), we'll take it from there. We'll configure the backup job following our best practices, and you'll be able to see exactly what we're backing up directly in our Control Panel. Never wonder if your backups are being monitored and tested, with our team watching your back you can rest easy.
Servosity Adamantium Vault - Our S3 storage for Servosity Safe backups is so secure, the data in it cannot be deleted by anyone. No pirate, disgruntled employee, rogue AI, or dude living off Cheetos and Mountain Dew in his mom's basement will be able to prevent us from restoring your files from our cloud. In fact, it's so secure that even we can't delete it until the lockdown has expired. We won't tell anyone how long that is for security reasons, but we've made it long enough that any malicious action can be discovered and remedied.
Servosity One - We've made a lot of innovative changes to the Servosity Standard and Professional agents over the years, but none as dramatic as this, and so we've decided that this new agent has earned it's own name: Servosity One. Install Servosity One, login through the browser, and manage everything through our Control Panel. That's it. It's built from the ground up to be simple, flexible, and secure. It even helps monitor the local backup validation process and allows us to guarantee that we can recover your backup, even if the worst happens.
