What are the different backup account types?

Alright, what is going on?

Currently at Servosity, we offer various different types of backup accounts. While having choices are nice, if they are not clearly explained, excess choices will just cause confusion. Thus this article will aim to give a thorough explanation of each Backup Account type.

The Backup Account types that we currently offer are:

  • DR Desktop
  • DR Server
  • Standard
  • Professional
  • NAS Device
  • Microsoft 365
  • Google Workspace

(Wait, what about Classic accounts?)

 DR Backup

These products are used to backup whole systems to a local backup store, which is locally managed and then uploaded to our cloud.

DR Desktop

Associated Software: ShadowProtect SPX, ImageManger

This account uses ShadowProtect SPX to take image based backups of whole volumes on a Desktop OS, such as Windows 10. This account grants you a license for ShadowProtect SPX.

DR Server

Associated Software: ShadowProtect SPX, ImageManger

This account type also uses ShadowProtect SPX, but is licensed for Server OS's like Windows Server 2019, or Red Hat 8. This account will also grant you a license for ShadowProtect SPX.

File Backup

These products are used to backup select directories or files within a system when the entire volume is not needed. If you require application or volume backup, please use DR Backups.

Standard

This account type is for file backup only, and can only be used on a Windows Desktop OS, such as Windows 10.

Professional

These account types are for file backup as well, but can be used on a Server OS such as Windows Server 2019.

NAS Device

This account type is very similar to Standard and Professional. Because Standard and Professional include unlimited storage, our terms and conditions require that the backup source must be on a local drive. NAS accounts are allowed to do file backups from a Network Source, or from multiple systems! You'll still get a license for Servosity Professional version 8, but you'll be billed according to the per terabyte pricing in your customer agreement. Check out this article to learn more about what unlimited storage really means.

Microsoft 365

This account type will backup all Microsoft 365 data! By default, all Mailboxes, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive information will be backed up. Microsoft 365 backups will run from Microsoft's cloud directly to our cloud.

Google Workspace

This account type will backup Google Workspace data. This includes every active email's Calender, Tasks, Emails, Documents, and Contacts. Also, all of the organizations shared drives will be backed up. Like M365 backups, this will run from Google's Cloud directly to our cloud.

What about Classic accounts?

With our Gannondorf release, we notated all existing accounts as Classic since they will be using our legacy (or classic) software versions.

Below we'll list the differences for these accounts types, but an easy way to view this is that all Classic accounts are configured the exact same as they were in the past.

No new features or changes have been included with that 'addition' of Classic accounts.

DR Desktop/Server Classic - The same as DR Desktop/Server, however each account comes with a Servosity v8 client license.

Professional/Standard Classic- These accounts include the Servosity v8 client to perform offsite file backups.

Important Note regarding Application specific backup: Currently, Servosity One only supports file backups. If you require SQL or Exchange backups, you will need to use the tools included with those programs to create local backups of their databases, and then you can use Servosity One to upload those local backup files.
Alternatively you can continue to use Servosity Classic until those applications are directly supported in Servosity One.

We've done our best to explain the differences in our backup account types, but if there's still any confusion, please feel free to reach out to support@servosity.com or sales@servosity.com for clarification.
