Will I lose any data if I upgrade to Servosity One?

To put it briefly

When converting from the current v8 Servosity client to the new Servosity One agent, our team will move your current backup data from the classic format to our new format, but there is no way to convert the existing retention data. We also do not currently support specific application backups in Servosity One, so please take that into consideration before upgrading your accounts.

We will expand on this in the paragraphs below.

Application Backups

Currently with the v8 Servosity Professional client, you have the ability to create application backups of Microsoft Exchange server, Microsoft SQL Server, and MySQL Server. With Servosity One we do not currently provide tools to integrate directly with these applications. You can still use the backup tools included with these products to create a database dump and then use Servosity One to backup the resulting backups to our secure cloud, but there won't be settings in the control panel to do that directly.

Backup Retention

Because the backup storage format has been completely rebuilt with Servosity One, there is currently no way to include retention data in a migration from Servosity V8 to Servosity One. This means that any data that was backed up, but has since been removed from the local folders that are being backed up won't be transferred to the new account. For file backups this means that all previous versions and deleted files before the date of the upgrade will be inaccessible.

For DR backups, this is much less impactful since the ShadowProtect backup chain handles it's own retention, so you'll still be able to restore files or volumes from any point in the current image chain, which should still give you many possible recovery points stretching back to the very first backup. All you will lose is the hourly, daily, weekly, and possibly monthly consolidated images that have fallen outside of the ImageManager retention settings.

What can I do?

For application backups, you can either setup a manual application backup with the tools that are included with that application, and add the results of those local operations to the Servosity One backup source, or you can use Servosity DR Server to create a full image backup of those application servers, and then there's no need to do any application backups, you can restore the full server, or just a single file from your backups.

If you have files in your retention that you believe you may have to restore at some point in the future, you can request that we export your existing backup data in it's current compressed and encrypted format. You'll then be able to use the Servosity V8 client to decrypt that data at any point. If you're not too concerned about the previous versions or deleted files that are saved in your current backup, you can simply keep the previous backup account until the new backup job is running smoothly. We won't bill you for that old account for the first month after you request the upgrade, so that you won't be double billed during the data transfer. After that, you can choose to keep the account as long as you like, you'll just be billed normally.
